The Goal Post

The Goal Post

This past week, I went to visit my sister.  She has newborn twins.  They are amazing.  I am in total love with them.  I wish they lived closer, so I could help her more, and who knows...quit my job and be a nanny to them! There is nothing more amazing then holding new life in your arms, seeing their little faces light up and watching babies grow and learn how to explore the world.

Here's an Update on my Goals from Last Week:

  • Work on Novel: Because of my little trip, my novel was pushed on the back burner again. I don't need to lose my motivation.  I need to pick it up and start writing again.  I have it all plotted out. It's a matter of getting the words on paper.  There simply are not enough hours in the day for me to do everything I want to do!

  • Run 1.75 miles: I ran 1.90 miles and then 2.10 miles.  So, I went over my goal.  I have a complete love for running.  When I was visiting my sister, I kept seeing runners, and I envied them!  I achieved my goals this week by turning off the voice of the RunKeeper lady who tells you how long you've been running, but I kept the distance measure on. I do feel like it is getting easier for me.  I don't feel like stopping anymore, and my breathing has gotten better.  I slowed my pace as many of my friends recommended, and it really helped.

Goals for the Upcoming Week

  • Work on My Novel: I'm starring this goal.  If I don't make any of my goals except this one this week, I'll be happy.  I did spend some time last week looking into how to get published. I looked at self-publishing and regular publishing.  I don't think self publishing is the way to go, because everyone is self publishing these days.  It is hard to get adult fiction books published nowadays, so I know once I finish the work then I'll have more work cut out for me.

  • Run 2.0 miles consistently: Ok, so I did make my 2.0 mile goal last week, but I don't want to increase too much too quickly.  I need o make sure my body is okay with building up slowly, and I don't injure something.

  • Clean Out My Closet: I posted yesterday about getting rid of bigger clothes.  I need to do this.  I need to clean out my closet completely, box up clothes to give back to friends, and to give to charity.  I need to do the same to my kids' closets.  I have tons of boy clothes to give to my sister who will need them again!

Goal Post Tuesday June 5, 2012

Today is Tuesday and that means it's goal day!  I have lost a total of 40 pounds.  I can barely believe it, except for all the clothes that are falling off when I wear them!  I've been really digging skirts, because of the elastic waists that they usually have.

I skipped goal posting last week.  I've had a busy two weeks, and blogging has taken a low place on the priority list apparently.  Although I skipped, I did think about my goals from the week before.

I had several goals, and unfortunately the only one I achieved was losing the 2 pounds.  We have not posted the rules for the kids, but I really want to do this before summer starts.  Number One and Number Two are in need of some limit setting, and Hubby and I are sort of pushovers in that department.  I love the kids, but I have to admit that discipline is not my strong point.  I have a temper, so I get angry, or I'm too soft.  There's sort of no middle ground.  We had a time when we had rules posted in the house, and it worked really well, so I'm going to do it again.

My other goal last week was to write every day, and this didn't happen either.  I did a lot of reading last week and sitting around when I wasn't at Taekwondo.  I just didn't have the energy.  In fact, I've been fighting off a cold, and I think that's why my body is so tired.

This week, my goals are all about organization.  I'm trying to organize some aspects of my life, so things flow more easily.  It may be hard for me to make these goals too, because I'm going out of town on Friday, so I don't have as much time to accomplish them, but I'm still going to set them down in writing.

  • Make a Chore Chart for Hubby and the Kids: We're in bad need of a physical reminder, with a checklist, of items that need to be cleaned around the house.  Sure, we can sit around and look at the mess and clutter and complain about it, but having a list to check off will surely help us accomplish more.  I've tried this before, and it didn't work, but we're going to try it again!
  • Create a Calendar: I want to be able to post a monthly calendar on our fridge, so everyone knows where everyone will be on a certain day.  Our schedules are so busy, that I think this will help.  I'd also like to use this calendar to fill in certain things like: Lauren cook dinner tonight, Hubby pick up kids today, etc.
  • Clean Bathrooms: I know that you all don't want to know the ins and outs of our potties!  Putting this here actually helps me achieve this dreaded chore.  Every time I've put it on my blog I've cleaned them.  So once again, clean those bathrooms!!!
Now I'm off to make this yummy chicken.  I'll let y'all know how it turns out.

Birthday Goal Post: May 15, 2012

Today is my birthday.  This year is just flying by, as have all thirty-three other years of my life.  I read an article recently that 33 is supposed to be the best year of your life.  Let's see if I can make THIS the best year of my life!

I don't have a photo of me as a newborn (my parents still have those), but here I am as a baby looking a whole lot like darling daughter (oh, and with hair!):

Aww--wasn't I cute?

But today is goal post Tuesday, and what a GREAT day to set some goals.  There's nothing like looking at your life just as one year has passed and another one is spreading out before you.

Goals for last week were:

  • Complete Wayback Wednesday post: This was completed on Thursday!  Yeah, I'm so proud of myself.  I haven't had as much time to blog lately, because I've been super busy in every aspect of my life.
  • 50 Crunches a Night: Boo.  I didn't accomplish this goal.  We did about 200 crunches or something crazy like that at TKD on Thursday night.  Then I went camping, so I had some exercise there!  I'll work on crunches this week, especially those darn V things that are the death of me!
I didn't set many goals last week, because I knew our friend was coming in town to go camping with us and there wasn't a whole lot of time to accomplish things.  Here are my goals for this week:

  • Clean the bathrooms upstairs: I generally try to avoid looking at the upstairs, because the boys keep it such a mess.  I went into their bathroom the other day and it reeked.  GROSS!  Who wants that?  I need to put these bathrooms on a cleaning schedule, like I do with the bathrooms downstairs.
  • Lose 1 pound: After having a few rest days from TKD, I fell off my plateau and lost two pounds!  I didn't even have that as a goal last week, because I'd been stuck on the plateau for so long.  So, my goal this week is to lose another pound.  I do believe my body needs a couple of rest days in between the workouts, and I've worked these into my schedule for now.
  • Blog for two more days this week: I'm trying to get back into a blog routine.  I don't know why this is so hard for me lately.  I've been reading a lot more, and just had other things to do in the evenings and morning, so blogging has not been coming as naturally. I've already started a post about our little camping trip this past weekend, however, so there will definitely be one more post to come!

Goals Week of April 23, 2012

My posts are all over the place!  When I first started this blog, way back in November, I was writing goal posts on Tuesday and Wayback Wednesday posts on Wednesdays.  Now, I've just been fitting them in wherever.

One of my goals this week is to work on a Wayback Wednesday post for next Wednesday.  I have a lot of "Wayback" stories to tell, and I think this blog serves as a sort of journal for my adventures in the past.  I haven't even divulged some of the craziest times in my life or the best adventures!!!

This week, I had a goal to lose one pound, which I didn't achieve.  I think this is because I lost four pounds last week.  I haven't gained, and certainly last night after doing over 100 situps in TKD, I came home and my stomach felt a lot flatter.  It certainly will never be flat like it was before Number One, Number Two, and Darling Daughter came along, but I wouldn't trade them for the flattest stomach in the world!

I haven't written this week.  I've had too much going on.  I plan to write some tomorrow, but my other big goal is to clean my bedroom and to clean the bathrooms (all four of them!).  My bedroom is such a pit.  I've had a problem keeping my bedroom clean since I was, um, born or at least since I was fifteen or so.  I'd like to reorganize my life, and keeping the house clean is part of that.  I also need to do a deep clean, dust, mop, etc. this weekend.  It's on my short list.  We'll see if I can get it done.

I've continued to love cooking in my crockpot.  I made a Weight Watchers chicken and dumplings recipe, and it was pretty good.  I enjoyed it, and the kids enjoyed it which is always a bonus.  They are sometimes so hard to please when it comes to food.  I want to make crispy salmon this week with noodles, but the coconut oil it called for cost $10 at the grocery store. $10 for something I'm going to use once, no thank you!  I guess I can substitute a different type of oil, but will the recipe be as good?  Anyone know?

My goals this week are:

  • Lose 1 pound (I know, this is so creative!  I bet you are so sick of reading this!)
  • Clean Bathrooms and Bedroom
  • Write or Edit my writing
  • Continue to cook two meals a week
